THE HOT CLUB OF PHILADELPHIA
The Hot Club of Philadelphia is an ensemble, dedicated to playing ‘Gypsy Jazz,’ the music pioneered by Django Reinhardt’s legendary ‘Hot Club of France Quintet.’ Django was attempting to do his own version of American ‘Hot Jazz,’ as played by stars like Louis Armstrong and Duke Ellington. Using acoustic guitars, bass and violin, rather than horns and drums. The HCOF added some French and Gypsy flavor and created a blend of music that combined European and American sounds and transcended them both. The HCPhilly mixes the original style of the HCOF, along with their own modern influences for a modern take on a timeless classic.
